UCLA's main campus is bounded by Sunset Blvd. on the North and Le Conte Ave. on the South; the East border is Hilgard Ave. and the West border is Gayley Ave. The UCLA Animation Workshop is in Melnitz Hall in the Northeast corner of campus near the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Hilgard Ave.

The most direct route is 405 (San Diego Freeway) to Sunset Blvd. East, but please anticipate traffic, and parking is extremely limited, especially on weekdays during the regular academic year.

The UCLA Animation Workshop, the James Bridges Theater, and most classrooms in the UCLA Department of Film, Television & Digital Media are located within Melnitz Hall, in the Northeast corner of the UCLA campus, near the Broad Art Center, Macgowan Hall, and the Murphy Sculpture Garden.

There are actually two adjacent, similarly-named buildings, Melnitz and East Melnitz, but the Animation Workshop facilities are in Melnitz (NOT East) on the 2nd Floor to the left as you come out of the elevator. The entrance to the James Bridges Theater is on the west side of Melnitz Hall.

Parking Structure 3 is conveniently located just North of Melnitz, but the main section of Parking Structure 3 (P3 South) is for prepaid ePermits, so Visitors should park in the Visitor Parking Pay-by-Plate section (Levels 1, 2 & 3) of P3 North, which runs diagonally with the entrance marked here:

You will enter Parking Structure 3 North on P3 North Level 3, and Visitor Parking is on Levels 1, 2 & 3, so turn Right after entering P3 North, and only park in the areas marked as "VISITOR PARKING" with a Green Circle and a White "P".

 

NOTE: Visitor Parking is restricted to the designated Visitor Parking Pay-by-Plate in P3 North Levels 1, 2 & 3 on Mondays - Fridays from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You are allowed to park in the non-Visitor Parking areas (P3 North Levels 4 and above, and P3 South) after 4:30 PM on Weekdays and all day on Weekends, but you must still pay to parking at a Self-Service Visitor Parking Pay-by-Plate Pay Station, which are located on Levels 1, 2 & 3 of Parking Structure 3 North. Pay-by-Plate Pay Station permits are NOT valid in stalls posted for Blue and X permits, or otherwise reserved.

Self-Service Visitor Parking Pay-by-Plate Pay Stations are located on Levels 1, 2 & 3 of Parking Structure 3 North.



NOTE: There is also a Pay Station in P3 South Level 1 near the elevator, stairs, tunnel and Disabled Person (DP) parking, but do not park in P3 South unless you have a valid DP placard. With any valid permit for a UCLA parking area and a properly displayed DP placard or DP license plate, you may park in all campus parking spaces according to your needs, excluding parking in loading zones, red curb spaces, gated parking structures, stalls marked with a “University Vehicles Only” sign, and areas not specifically marked as parking stalls.

Pay-by-Plate Pay Station permits are NOT valid in parking stalls outside of the Visitor Parking section of the structure or in stalls posted for Blue and X permits or otherwise reserved.

To purchase Visitor parking at a Pay-by-Plate Pay Station:

1. Once parked, go to the nearest Pay-by-Plate Pay Station.
   • P3 North Levels 2 & 3 each have two Pay Stations per Level: one by the P3 North Elevator/Stairs and another near the driveway exit between P3 North and P3 South.
   • P3 North Level 1 only has a single Pay Station near the driveway exit between P3 North Level 1 and P3 South Level 1.
   • There is also a Pay Station in P3 South Level 1 near the elevator, stairs, tunnel and Disabled Person (DP) parking.
2. Enter your license plate number.
   • If your vehicle does not have visible license plates, enter the last 6 digits of the Vehicle ID Number (VIN) into the pay station and display the receipt on the driver’s side dash. Your VIN can be found on the driver's side door or the lower driver's side of the windshield.
3. Choose the amount of time that you would like to spend on campus.
4. Pay using the exact cash amount or with a credit card.
   • Pay stations do not provide change.
   • There are no refunds for pay station purchases.
5. If you are using a VIN instead of a license plate, please place your receipt on your dashboard, otherwise nothing else is required.

You can also pay for parking with the ParkMobile app to receive text notifications before your parking expires, though ParkMobile charges an additional $0.45 convenience fee per transaction (the convenience fee is retained by ParkMobile and is not part of the fee paid to park at UCLA). Parking Structure 3 North is Zone 2504 in the ParkMobile app.

Melnitz Hall is to the South of Parking Structure 3.

The most direct (and wheelchair-accessible) route to Melnitz from P3 North is take the elevator (or stairs) to Level 1, and then walk Southwest through the driveway into P3 South:

Then continue South to the tunnel in the Southwest of P3 South Level 1:

Continue through the tunnel and Melnitz Hall will be to your Left:

Alternatively, you can walk along Charles E. Young Drive from P3 North to Melnitz.

Take the elevator (or stairs) to P3 Level 3 (street-level):

Exit Parking Structure 3 North, and then walk South along Charles E. Young Drive E:

Cross the street at the STOP sign, and then turn Right to walk West along Charles E. Young Drive N:

Take the stairs Down from Charles E. Young Dr N to Melnitz Hall:

Melnitz Hall will be to your Left:

Enter Melnitz Hall through the glass doors on the West side of the building and you will be in the Lobby of the James Bridges Theater facing a wall of movie posters. Exit the Lobby to the Left to find the West Stairwell (to the right of the Darren Star Screening Room):

You can take the West Stairwell to the 2nd Floor, but we recommend that you take the 1st Floor Hallway to the Right toward the Elevator and East Stairwell:

The Elevator and East Stairwell are on the Left about ⅔ of the way down the Hallway, near a lounge area with tables and chairs where students typically gather. Take the Elevator or the East Stairwell to the 2nd Floor:

The UCLA Animation Workshop (Melnitz 2487) is to the Left as you exit the Elevator or the East Stairwell on the 2nd Floor:

Turn Right at the "ANIMATION" sign, and you have arrived at the UCLA Animation Workshop (Melnitz 2487):
